In the 1970s, the government established the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation, which operates Pakistan's merchant marine fleet and promotes trade through maritime transport.
Today, Pakistan's coastal region remains an important center of economic activity, with ports like Karachi and Gwadar serving as important trade hubs.
